We got new Deaver 10 leaf springs,
Demello Offroad u-bolt flip and
frame reinforcements on the truck on Friday that needed to be tried out - a shakedown run!
So we got up Saturday morning and loaded up the truck, plus some extra 4 gallon jugs of water to weight it down a bit more like when we go out sometimes. Got up to
The Cleghorn Ridge Trail (San Bernardino National forest) along I-15, aired down and started out. We made it about a mile or so and heard a loud noise from the right rear. Took a look and the rear shock was off it's
upper mount, stuck up on the bottom of the bed. No bolt. Well, this is what a
shakedown run is supposed to find.
Had to be fixed so, we jacked up that side with the high lift, got the shock back where it belonged but I had no bolt. Used a ratchet-tie down strap to hold it in place and headed back down the trail, aired up, hit the road to the next town and then searched for a M12 1.25 bolt and some big washers.
For some reason this was hard to find! It was hot! A few hours and a couple
of burritos later, got the bolt, bolted it up, and checked everything else. Good to
go! I am now all dirty, dusty and stinky.
Should we just go home? Nah, what else do we have to do but try again? Hit
Cleghorn at about 4 PM! This time we completed Cleghorn with its flowers, great views,
easy to medium level trail really with lots of optional harder routes (something
for everyone), tried some . . had fun, saw a little rattlesnake! The truck handled everything great and the ride is so good
now! Love the Deavers! Ended at Silverwood Lake and jumped
in to the cool water as the sun set! That felt great!!!! We left just as the day
use part of the lake closed at 9 PM.
So, a change of clothes and I now no longer stink after the swim and we head out and and head back to civilization, stopping at
Paisano Ristorante
in Fontana and it was really good! Then we headed home!! Long day. |
